My Top 20 favourite Bollywood songs of 2014

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

The year 2014 is almost about to end and all Bollywood movies including the ones to be released in this month have launched their soundtracks. It has been an exceptional year in Bollywood in terms of the music in the movies. Music directors as well as the singers have made sure that music lovers have plenty of good songs to hear and to choose as their favourite ones. Being an avid music lover, I weigh a Bollywood movie’s success by the quality of its songs, and this year, most of the movies I’ve liked had a fantastic soundtrack.

Initially, I planned to list my top 10 favourite Bollywood songs of 2014. However, I realized it’s easier said than done as a few more songs kept telling me to also include them in my list. After all, I have heard them so many times, often on loop. I had to honour their requests!  I mostly like romantic tracks, the slow soft ones and occasionally, I listen to party songs and dance numbers.

Since I am not writing a music review, so I’ll skip the elaborate details about the songs. Unfortunately, I can’t embed audio links in my blog. I hope you would not mind about that.

So, I present you my top 20 favourite Bollywood songs of 2014. Tune in and enjoy! Continue reading

Tum Hi Ho…Arijit Singh!

Video

Just a few minutes ago, I was googling about Arijit Singh, after I had watched an episode of the ongoing show ‘Indian Idol Junior’, wherein he performed his smashing chartbuster song “Tum Hi Ho” as a duet with one of the junior contestants. Such a lovely performance it was! When the search results displayed, my eyes shot towards the video results, and I immediately clicked on the link that I’ve posted here. The video was that of  Arijit, performing a Himesh Reshamiyya number in a reality show called ‘Fame Gurukul’ (which probably most people mustn’t have heard of, as this show never garnered enough popularity like that of Indian Idol or Sa Re Ga Ma Pa). And yeah, back in those days in 2005, songs of Himesh were a cult favourite among the masses! Thankfully, that phase is long gone! 🙂

If you have already been swept by the magical voice of the Murshidabad-born 26 year old singer in his popular numbers ‘Phir Mohabbat in Murder 2’, ‘Raabta in Agent Vinod’, ‘Tum Hi Ho, Chahun Main Ya Naa and Milne Hai Mujhse Aayi’  in Aashiqui 2 and ‘Kabira(Reprise), Ilahi and Dilliwali Girlfriend’ in the recently-released movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, then, you will notice, after watching the video, how far this singer has come since his reality-show days. Right now, he is one of the most sought after voices in the music industry in Bollywood, Tollywood and even in Southern film industries. It is quite a remarkable and appreciable feat for a singer born through a reality show, because there is a persisting common belief among the good percentage of genuine music lovers in India that musical reality shows in the country can produce only singers with a limited shelf life, singers who get swayed by the instant fame and money, which come and go in a snap! I wish that Arijit Singh continues his good work and treats his fans and followers with many melodious numbers in the days to come! Tum Hi Ho Arijit Singh, Tum Hi Ho…
