Trailer Review: Tevar

I have been following Arjun Kapoor on Twitter and Facebook for a while, and let me tell you, he knows a thing or two about movie publicity. His recent tweets and updates about his upcoming movie ‘Tevar‘ have actually managed to grab enough eyeballs and spark interest among his fans and general movie lovers. That includes me too! The official trailer of this movie, which is a remake of 2003 superhit Telugu film ‘Okkadu‘ and stars Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Manoj Bajpai and is directed by debutant director Amit Sharma is finally out today and I have to say, it is amazing!

Tevar Psoter

The trailer opens with versatile actor Manoj Bajpai speaking about his marriage wishes with the lead actress Sonakshi Sinha at a typical election rally setting in rural Uttar Pradesh. The first impression itself meant that he was the villain in the movie. After all, most Indian ‘masala’ movies portray the villain as some politics-inclined goon or a politician and can be seen swooning over a beautiful girl, usually the heroine. The choice of Bajpai as the ‘Mathure ka gunda‘ is indeed a masterstroke, for he has delivered some memorable performances in a negative role, especially in the recent movie Gangs of Wasseypur.

And when Arjun Kapoor flies into the frame, eyes at once get fixed on the next probable superstar of Bollywood. The actor jumps over the terraces of Agra, like some superhero with a ‘Superman’ song playing in the background and then coolly bashes up street goons, sending them a warning at the end: “Aurato ki izzat kiya kar warna teri goliyan phod duga aur banduk tod duga.” (Respect women or else I’ll blow your bullets and break your gun.) Arjun is only five movies old and he has already achieved a magnetic screen presence with his good looks and great dialogue delivery. It is noteworthy that while most Bollywood actors opt for a clean shaven face to look young the celluloid, Boney Kapoor’s son manages to look impeccably cool, young and classy at the same time with the sporty stubble or beard. In Tevar, he simply looks electrifying while performing the action sequences or romancing or dancing!

Sonakshi Sinha, on the other hand, fails to impress as she has been seen in the same avatar in almost all the moves she had done so far, sans Lootera, where her performance was quite on a different level. It is time she hunts for more women-centric roles rather than be a glamourous love interest of an action hero like in Dabangg, Dabanng 2, Rowdy Rathore, R…Rajkumar, Bullett Raja and the list goes on.

The trailer does not give much idea about the music; however, the background score and a few interspersed bits of the songs builds up the required excitement needed in a Bollywood action movie. With Sajid-Wajid at the helm of the music department, one can expect some foot-tapping chartbusters!

The film is slated to release on January 9, 2015. Stay tuned for Tevar and be updated with latest news on the movie’s Facebook page: Tevar
